Catnap - Anonymous' Story

I’d flown home from London a day or two ago and was suffering from jetlag. I was driving to Fairfield, to visit my daughter, but the Punt Road traffic was bumper to bumper. So, with the warm sun on my face, I slipped the car into neutral and – for half a millisecond – I shut my eyes…

Half an hour later I woke with a start. There were cars on all sides. They slowly streamed around me, not noticing or not caring that my car wasn't moving. I could have had heart failure, I could have been dead. But maybe they knew I was just asleep – maybe they knew and thought, ‘She must be tired, poor thing. Let’s not wake her, let’s let her sleep.’ And so they did.
