Thank you to Edmund for sharing his remembrances of Punt Road during World War II.
During the war years, there were far less cars on the road due to petrol rationing. People would save their petrol for special trips on the weekends – leaving Punt Road free during the week for billy carting. An activity he remembers fondly!
There were also blackouts at night. On summer nights, Edmund would lie on the nature strip in the middle of Punt Road and look up at the stars – stars that you wouldn’t normally see when the city lights were on.
